Coaybay, a remote earthly paradise of the Taino people of Ayiti “land of high mountains” and Kiskeya “mother of all lands” known today as the Dominican Republic. The sacred watery caves of my ancestors served as portals into the ancestral realms one enters after death and during ceremony. This self-portrait explores my own personal inner transformation during the pandemic—reflecting on the cycles of birth, life, death and rebirth. A new way of being by honoring the deep connection shared with the natural world and the mycelial web that binds all life and the wisdom of the ancestors that came before.
This piece is inspired by the the OLMEC civilization, known to be the ancestors of the Maya and the Aztec, the original builders of the great pyramids in the ancient world. Their myths includes the star people, represented by the alien figure in the center of the Olmec's third eye coming down from the heavens and joining the the interdimensional "therianthropic" (half human/half animal) to seed the earth with wonders.
This painting is a representation of the Tibetan buddhist Yidan (deity) known as Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion. Radiant and powerful representation of the self as a compassionate, loving being. This painting was blessed by the late Lama Norlha Rinpoche, an accomplished meditation and retreat master and abbot of the Kagyu Thubten Chöling Monastery in Wappingers Falls, a week prior to his passing into the bardo.

This vision I experienced during deep meditation, my third eye opened and I saw a bright light covered by concentric circles of what I could only describe as souls in a vortex of pure consciousness. At the end of the tunnel was a bright light in the shape of a spirit representing my soul connected to my physical body.

My first vision, Ascension and Rebirth. The first time I experienced a deep meditative state under entheogens in 2010. I saw myself transforming into a light body, able to transcend the limitations of the physical form and travel the cosmos. The left and right panel shows the symbolic representation of this transformation with creation, also shown in the fetus growing the tree of life from its crown shedding away and rebirthing into its true form.
